As we can see, the color orange is totally his color.  Hope they arrest his bigoted hate crime committing ass very very very soon. 

@DivaJyoti - It may be a crime (maybe not) Did you read the Witnesses words? The dead man was the one on top beating the larger Hispanic man.  Even if it is, why are you sure it has anything to do with bigotry?

I had relatives ranting on FB about this because they were making the assumption that George Zimmerman was white and how he'd be behind bars if he wasn't white...

Does a person's race or creed get them off the hook for a crime? No one can answer this question except the jurors in the room if this man is brought to trial. The facts of what happened will probably only be known within the court room and so it's going to be up to the 12(Florida is 12 right?) men and women in that little room to determine whether he should go to jail because he committed a crime, because he's half hispanic, becuase he's half-white, or whether he did not violate Florida's self-defense laws and should be acquited. In any case I do believe that he should go before a jury and not be tried in the court of public opinion.

@Shadowrunner81 - Agreed but...And the reason this is a national story is? Hispanic is not a race, but this man is very brown so he is not some member of a favored racial class, if such a thing still exists

News reports from Florida are reporting that George Zimmerman was arrested in 2005 for aggrivated assault.  The man has a history of violence. The aggrivated assault was against policemen.

Listen to all the 911 calls.  Zimmerman was following, and confronted, Trayvon - under the very same "stand your ground" law, had Trayvon had a gun he would have been completely justified in shooting Zimmerman out of fear for his own life.  Trayvon didn't have a gun, but was well aware a man (who had 100 pounds on Trayvon) was following him, and then that man confronted and, according to other witnesses, cornered him. The 911 dispatcher even told Zimmerman NOT to pursue Trayvon, and he did anyway.

Your entry is disgusting: it callously and superficially skirt around what is clearly a miscarriage of justice. An armed adult male, as an instigator, shot and killed a boy. His arrest and charge is obfuscated by a senseless state law and incompetent local officials.

@Celestial_Teapot - If the killing happened as the dead boys parents say then there is no law in the way of prosecution, so that law is not an issue at all. I live in a state that has never not had a stand your ground police. We have a low crime rate here, so do not even try to use this as a way to make self defense a crime

@trunthepaige - I think it's become national because for as far as we have come in race relations in our country, we still have a long way to go. 

@brokenbindings2 - but both of them are from groups that the police would not favor if that is the case. I think we are seeing false charges of racism. And as is his style Al Sharpton is race baiting again. The last time he did it people were killed

I would like to think that the unprosecuted and unprovoked murder of any boy would provoke general outrage.

It is sad that you, and people like you, can't appreciate the circumstances of the killing without being caught up in the color of the boy's skin.

The stand-your-ground law was cited by local law enforcement as excuse for not pursuing charges.

From statements of neighbors, from statements of the person on the phone with the boy around the time of the shooting, and from statements during Zimmerman's 911 call, it is clear that circumstances are as potrayed by the boy's parents.

That law only means that in a legal case of self defense of yourself or others you do not need to run away and be cornered before you can fight. If that basic right is in play here, it means that Mr Zimmerman was legally in all other ways defending himself

@trunthepaige - Mr. Zimmerman was armed with a gun and outweighed by boy by over a hundred pounds. Even putting eye witness testimony to the side-- of the boy being chased and yelling for help of Mr. Zimmerman trailing the boy in his car, it is ridiculous-- no, farcical-- to suggest that the boy was the aggressor.
