Just a girl. I am a contrary one, but beyond that I am not so unusual, if that is unusual at all. I grew up on a farm, only 35 miles outside of Seattle, closer to Tacoma. Tacoma is a city I lived in for a while. I am now back at the farm, having fully succeeded in not following any of my parent’s advice. Sadly it was all very good advice I didn’t follow. So here I am, eating crow. Were did that saying “eating crow” come from?

American Prophecies

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have"- Gerald Ford

"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe" -Thomas Jefferson

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not"- Probably Thomas Jefferson

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world"-Thomas Jefferson

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them"-Thomas Jefferson

"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government" unproved Thomas Jefferson quote

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."-Thomas Jefferson

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -Thomas Jefferson

"To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. "Thomas Jefferson

Can you disagree with anything here?

I should see a lot of responses to that question because most on xanga disagree with most of this. I wonder if they even know that?

My position on politics an be summed up by a conversation I heard in Game of Thrones between Eddard Stark and Varys:
Stark: Whom do you truly serve?
Varys: The realm, my lord. Someone must.

@SlackerSociety - In many ways we a area richer fairer place than in 1776. But ideals that got us here have gone to hell. I see us selling out to a dictatorship of the elite. Making ourselves serfs to them

All very true. These things have been played out over and over again throughout history, civilizations and governments. If I had my choice, I don't think I would have chosen to be born here at the ending of this one. However, the bright side is that we get to see so many Biblical prophecies fulfilled.

It's funny because afterall, it was Alexander Hamilton who came up with the idea of a central Bank. It was mostly Hamilton's ideas which have made America a Giant among nations.

@RulerofMasons - A Central bank is one thing, running the government on a deficit is another. Plus is being the worlds police force a good thing for America?

Trun, a company does not exist to create more jobs.  Corporations want to make money with less workers, that is how you maximize your profits.  So, in other words, we are forced to get crumbs from the government, because to hire workers is much more expensive.  Understand?

@RulerofMasons - I think the problem lays not within HAVING a central bank, but that bank being a private entity that charges interest on the "money" it prints.  If that bank was a gov't owned bank, with the gov't keeping the interest from the loans, the financial climate may look much different (though I know that opens another can of worms for debates)

@RulerofMasons - Think about it it awhile. What does the government produce? Where does it gets its money and power? In all of history, is it the private sector or governments that have killed billions of people in the pursuit of power? Why do you truest government, when it has never been trustworthy?

@grim_truth - It does but that government central bank was supposed to be the main method of the Government funding itself. A far better idea that out present tax system

@trunthepaige - If I'm not mistaken, one of the Dakota's has a central State Bank.  It sounds like it's a system that works well for them.  Of course, the state owns the bank, and keeps interest.  Imagine the outrage if Bank of America were to own that bank and make billions off of the people the way the Federal Reserve has.

Other than nitpicking details and wording I see nothing there to disagree with.
All parties in D.C. are big government.  As a firm believer in personal freedom, no matter which side I vote for, I lose.

@RulerofMasons - Far safer than with a totally powerful government and history supports my thoughts on that

Without a government, what force could prevent american citizens from murdering those deemed unworthy?  What force could protect us from other countries?  No doubt, we need a government, but I guess the debate is a matter of what kind of government.  I believe I explained to you why not everyone can have a job, and therefore government has the responsibility to look out for the left behind, who no fault of their own, could not be a worker.  What you want is the darwinian elimination of those who are left behind.

@RulerofMasons - What force?  A citizen militia.  Permanent employment isn't necessary when everyone's rights are honored and their brain works.  Figure out what it takes to survive, carefully considering all the variables available to you, and what it costs.  Don't focus on the means, focus on the end result and work from their to find an efficient route that respects the rights of all others.

@RulerofMasons - Don't assume that the most common traditional way to do something is the only way either.  There's an infinite variability of ways to do just about everything.  Use your imagination and research.

@RulerofMasons - Again you are avoiding the real world where that has never happened to one thousandth the degree of murdering governments

"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."

We need some kind of new tax code whereby people can choose to only pay for things they absolutely agree with.

i agree with the quotes.  what i don't agree with is that they are prophecies, or that the form of government we have now is accurately described by those quotes.

1. i'm not interested in a government that gives me everything i want... only in a government that promotes fairness in taxes and guaranteed necessities.

2. the happiest countries in the world, for the past several years, have all been European.  and here's a little study on government corruption: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/nov/18/world/la-fg-corrupt-box18-2009nov18

3.  being unemployed doesn't make one unwilling to work, particularly in this economy.  plus, many wealth individuals earn their living through investments, not actual work.
4.  i agree.  it's a shame the conservatives destroyed our surplus a decade ago.  and that means i trust them the least to fix the mess we're in.
5.  i don't see how what the government offers its citizens is relevant to the usefulness of their labors in the private sector...
6.  i tried googling that quote to find its context.  apparently, Jefferson never said it.
7.  i have no problem with guns, provided that the owner is properly trained (as much as a soldier, preferably).  i don't want a bunch of redneck idiots around me who think they're toys or fashion statements.
8.  no disagreement.
9. agreed.  so, religious institutions should not be tax-exempt.  because i find much of what they do/believe to be sinful and abhorrent.

@flapper_femme_fatale - in other words you want the government to give you more and have more power over you. The two are inseparable. And a funny thing is those happy countries have very high suicide rates. But if your looking for the government to make you happy that is not surprising
