Just a girl. I am a contrary one, but beyond that I am not so unusual, if that is unusual at all. I grew up on a farm, only 35 miles outside of Seattle, closer to Tacoma. Tacoma is a city I lived in for a while. I am now back at the farm, having fully succeeded in not following any of my parent’s advice. Sadly it was all very good advice I didn’t follow. So here I am, eating crow. Were did that saying “eating crow” come from?

Happy Days are here Again !!!

These days I hope everyone already knows that the unemployment rate is a messy why of looking at our economies health . Though employment rates and pay are the most important things to look at for us who are not rich and need our jobs.  The employment numbers can fall, not because more people are working, but simply because fewer people are looking for work. A far better alternative to our official unemployment rate, is to count employment rather than unemployment. By that measure (and its by far more accurate harder to play games with), the "employment-population ratio",  it shows us what we already really know, there has been no improvement for years.

So welcome to the real Economy our president is so happy with. There are few jobs out there, and those that are out there, they pay honorably.

– Lower-wage occupations were 21 percent of recession losses, but 58 percent of recovery growth.

– Mid-wage occupations were 60 percent of recession losses, but only 22 percent of recovery growth.

Yes those new jobs, the few there really are suck. One more thing about all these jobs, a huge number of them not only pay poorly per hour, but they are only part time jobs. But our noble leaders minions are now saying that a lot of the 14.7% of the workforce who were unwillingly forced into part time work or are not working. They are now happy with working only part time. That 14.7% number has not changed all year, it shows zero improvement.

So are happy days here again?

Do we just need to stay the course, Obama's policies will work someday?

Hopefully they work before we die. If what you are doing is not working, doing the same over and over again is a sign of insanity

There is nothing that can be done to create job growth. We will never invent a new energy resource, it's not Obama's fault, the system is designed to fall as time goes by, things can only get worst. The only thing that can save us is a world war 3 with China and Russia.

I know a lot of folks who have just given up on looking for work. It's depressing. I'd definitely say that the job scene is not improving, at least, not overall. Certain fields have seen growth, yes. But it's not enough for the country as a whole to get any relief. People are just tired of searching and are becoming more dependent on welfare. Some of them are my close relatives.

If there was a republican in the office now with all this same stuff going on,the regular news media would be showing ALL this stuff.Funny how they don't show the REAL truth when a democrat is in office.I wonder why they do that.News isn't biased,it's news right?

unless you're going to die in the next four years, i'm sure the republicans will eventually get their chance to create all these jobs romney is promising. But be assured that if you do get sick, obamacare will make sure the insurance industry won't kick your butt to the curb because of a lifetime $  maximum on coverage. perhaps then you'll be singing  "happy days here again".

sadly its the year of choosing the lesser of two evils. i live in downeast maine, economically depressed area for the most part.  life is what you make it. you work hard at whatever you can find. you live on less, simplify, and find that its ok. the world won't end if you can't afford the toys.  i find it amusing that all of the "poor" people i know of smoke.  they have computers, fancy phones and eat fast food. i just shake my head.  our government is not going to make it better for us. we have to make it better for ourselves and our neighbors.--karen

@tommytones - 15.3%  of Americans had no health care insureance when Obama took office its now up to 18%. oh yeah Obama just has been wonderful for those 18%. I thought he was trying to get health insurance to more Americans not less? Oh and Obama said we would be paying less all while that insurance than fewer of us even have, it costs about $2300 more per year for a family of four than it did when he signed Obama-care into law.

Happydays!!!! Four more years of this crap oh yeah

@traveler - pick the one you most agree with. Though I need to think you are nuts to pick the one who has run the country as poorly the last four years as obama has. and he is not even claiming he do anything differently. Four more years of the same things. But this time it will work

@lifeontheWink - no doubt American poverty is not at all life threatening. Yet I fear that a lot of us would not last long if it ever got that bad again. What people forget it that before WW2 people in this nation could be poor enough to be mall nourished. The only reason Americans are taller now than the children of the great depression is because they did not have enough good food so they did not grow to full height

You know who is going to save America?

Vladimir Putin:

Man of steel, man of rubber, man of Russia. The banks shall kneel before him pitifully. He shall win elections. He is not some worthless, aging technocrat, hamstrung by asinine thoughts of rights and laws.

No.

He attracts the young. His personal magnetism attracts perky blondes from all walks of life. Their outlook is buoyant. Their beliefs firm.

Vladimir Putin.

He is watching you. He is forever vigilant for
his people. He cares. He cares about what they read in the papers, about
what they write on the internet, about whether they congregate in
groups of two or more. He maintains order. This pleases him greatly.

@lifeontheWink - "i find it amusing that all of the "poor" people i know of smoke.  they have computers, fancy phones and eat fast food."

BEST POINT EVER! My family is what most people consider "rich" but we shop at the salvation army and poor people laugh at us for shopping there. When you go to the salvation army on a Tuesday you get 50% off. On Tuesdays when you look in the parking lot you will see that the parking lot is filled with rich cars owned by rich people. They are buying cheap used discount clothes.

When you leave the salvation army parking lot and go to the shopping mall you will see the shopping mall parking lot filled with cars owned by poor people. Not exclusively but you can clearly see an obvious trend. Most (not all) poor people are poor because they are fools with there pennies. Poor people laugh at us for shopping at the salvation army so we get even by laughing at them for being financial FOOLS and spoiling there kids with every luxury under the sun then pleading poverty.

We also WORK 24/7.

@lifeontheWink - By the way you can eat at the oriental buffet and get better quality food for much cheaper then paying for McDonald's "food" that is a proven health killer. Health care??? How about wise prevention??? Exercise, quality diet.

@LadyboyRevolution - And the cost of dry, rice, beans, peas are dirt cheap. buying whatever fresh vegetable it cheap save a ton as does buying eggs, real cheeses on sale, whatever meat fish poultry pork is cheapest. Then cooking it fresh at home. Healthy meals are cheaper than most poor eat everyday

@trunthepaige - Great point. But I seriously think all the unhealthy condiments (salt, sauces, etc) must be addictive and ruins our taste buds for the quality healthy natural taste. But yes it is amazing how cheap healthy food can be.
