Atheist argument #10
Christianity is based on a fraud “the Apostles lied“
That argument never did make any sense did it?
But I never go very long without hearing some fool say just that.

“Shut your pieholefisherman!” The greatest line in the vid!!
What’s a pieholefisherman?
Wouldn’t it be much easier to make up the Apostles and put words in their mouths than recruit 12 people to actually do what they supposedly did?
@tendollar4ways - Except that they existed and that their biggest competitors wrote about them, trying to belittle them all. But they never said they did not exist. And what motivated Peter and Paul to die for a lie?
Obviously people could conceivably die for a lie if they really believed it to be true. The problem, of course, is that some of the people who died for the faith would know if they were dying for a lie, and yet chose to die anyway. It’s not an absolute proof, but it does make the case for the resurrection being true stronger and the case for it being false weaker.
@randomneuralfirings - It proves that people who claimed to have seen it all, believed what they said was true. Eye witness testimony can not be stronger than that, unless you are the eyewitness. I would say that disproves the idea of it being a conspiracy of fake witnesses.
“You really need to stop drinking out of lead cups.”
LOL
@trunthepaige - There Biggest competitors? If Jesus is made up, the apostles could be made up just as easily.
And what motivated Peter and Paul to die for a lie?
Dunno…I don’t think 72 virgins await the Muslim Martyrs and I don’t think you beleive in Allah so…dare ya go.
@tendollar4ways - Made up by who? and why did the Jews write again none existent people? Peter and Paul started the Christian faith, they would know if it was a lie as it would have been their lie. Why would they die for it?
@trunthepaige - Where is the Jewish writers mentioning Peter and Paul ? If you add in Mary, there even have a few albums but I googled this and couldn’t find anything. I did find curiously that Catholics beleive he was the first “pope” and established a Church in Rome and the Protestants beleive he never set foot there.
@tendollar4ways - Found in the Talmud they did talk about Christians and Jesus, never saying these people never exist, when that would have been there best argument if they could have said it
@tendollar4ways - No as those arguments are not exactly important ones. I have no reason to worry about human fallibility and yes someone is lying
@trunthepaige - The Talmud was written in 200 CE and 500 CE. There have been many books written about Bigfoot and many people beleive he exists but this doesn’t prove He exists. Legends are born all the time.
@tendollar4ways - That was when it was collected the writings are older. SO in other words be it the Romans or the Jews you will say not so. I get it
You do not believe any history before the age of the printing press and doubt even modern history unless you personally saw it and were not drinking that day
@trunthepaige - I am saying that making up the apostles makes sense if Jesus is made up too. Since I think it is all made up…Judism, Christianity and Islam…it makes sense.
It also makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Judism was a very poor marketing idea and limited sales to the chosen people. Little market for growth and highly selective in their customers. No friggin wonder it didn’t take off. Christianity targeted Jew and Gentile patrons alike. Islam adopted the Christian Model and they have a much greater marketshare than Judism.
@tendollar4ways - SO in your world a big part of history never happened though your version of event has not backing the other one can not be seen on video so you know it did not happen. And Romans and Jews of that same time who were criticizing Christianity were dumb to know what you know
@trunthepaige - They have a video of Bigfoot that dates back to the seventies. I think it looks like a dude in a Gorilla Suit.
@tendollar4ways - Yep I see I was right about your beliefs
@trunthepaige - Considering the dudes finally copped to it a few years ago who made it and with the new technology availible they discovered a belt buckle in the video…looks like my skepticism is justified.
@tendollar4ways - Of a bigfoot vid certainly, of everything? well at least you are consistent
Shh, stop trying to make atheists honestly investigate their own belief system. They can’t stand that!
@tendollar4ways - 72 virgins would make for a HUGE game of D&D.
Did you ever consider that the apostles might not have made it up maliciously, but instead had just been duped, much like the cults of Jim Jones and Heaven’s Gate? Find one powerful leader who is convinced of his own lies, and it all becomes fairly easy to explain after a few decades of telephone before finally writing down the stories.
Yeah. I dislike people who still want to say that Christianity is a fake religion merely to chain the masses. sure, in the past, the roman papacy did make it awful through catholicism, but its not uncommon for people to warp things out of the way they were intended.
And for the Atheists, Yes, I understand, religion has lied to you. that’s because people in charge of religion lied, not because religion does.
@Garistotle - yeah, but one colossal red dragon vs 72 level one players, and theyd all be snuffed out.
@GodlessLiberal - Jesus faked his crucifixion? Because that is what is would take.BUt to give you credit that idea carries some water.
Carries water until your said convinced of his own lies. Dude only so many people can be that delusional that they think they saw a guy get executed then come back to life. Now the total nut is 12 of them all unusually charismatic
OK, I have faith. I believe in God. I believe in Jesus. I believe these things based on faith because nobody can prove them to be false.
On the other hand, I don’t believe in Obama. I know he exists, I just don’t believe in him. Proof exists that shows he’s not who he claims to be. It would take massive amounts of faith for me to believe he’s created jobs, earned the Nobel Peace Prize, and that our economy is in a recovery.
The miracle of Jesus rising from the dead is far more believable than Obama doing a good job as President. However,. many atheists buy this claim.
