  • Good Christian=Neutered Christian

Traits that will get you called a “good Christian”

You need to be an insipidly nice,  docile, flaccid pushover, of a human being.

You need to be a person who does not have the courage to take a stand. The only verse in the Bible you should know is “judge not”. And no you don’t need to know the full verse, just those two words.

As a matter of fact, it is much better if you do not read a whole lot of the Bible. It will just mess up your pop Christian ideology.

In matters of sex, on a personal level, you need to be a neuter.

But regarding any and all other human beings, you shall have no opinion. Play it safe and don’t talk about sex , other than to say you don’t do it.

As a good Christian, you will of course not believe your faith has any merit greater than anyone else’s does. But if you do believe such a thing, well just keep your mouth shut.

A “good Christian” never lets their faith effect their lives outside of church. No one should be able to tell you from anyone else. Other than the fact that you are very boring.

Lets just sum this up. A good Christian can best be described as nice, quite and boring.

I am a bad Christan, just ask all the pop Christians out there, they will tell you. It seems that when they are bashing another Christian, they finally feel comfortable making a judgment.

  • I think converting all Christians to Islam would solve the problem.

I’m not a Muslim–yet.  I don’t want to wear the outfit because everyone hates me enough already.  The Quran made me think, and it’s saner than the Bible.  I mean, it actually gives you a realistic understanding of things if you’re a newcomer to this world.

The Bible is not helpful unless you know certain things.

No offense.  I’ts merely my opinion.  I don’t mean to offend you.

  • I don’t know if sarcasm works

  • we are called to be warriors, NOT politically-correct – “i’m okay – you’re okay”, desensitized, blind recluses. in everything under the sun, there is an “opinion”. with God and the christian believer, it is NOT an opinion. you battle by making people think.

they (non-believers) do love to come to your site and ‘pretend’ bash you because they need your spark to allow them to preach and start arguments so they can feel good about what they believe. it also allows them a chance to actually stretch their minds as they fumble around for scientific proof of this or that. on your level, paige, you are an honorable warrior. as the earth prepares to receive Jesus once again, the true believer will NOT be so kind and meek in the message but more vocal and urgent. it isn’t your pride, it is your desire for people to wake the heck up.

  • Loving sex isn’t a sin, just admit, you love the flesh more than most Christians.

  • It sounds like being a good Christian is the same as being a good Republican.

    Drat that Rand Paul!

  • Sounds like Buddhism and Christianity has a lot in common with the exception of having to become vegetarian also :) Well I’m already half way there.

  • @Tooty_fruits - I did not know you had to be a vegetarian .. live and learn

  • “Lest you be judged,” isn’t there something about preparing for judgment day?

It is the reason why we do the right things for the right reasons.

  • @LannyBudd - A warning about the price paid for doing it. Not a commandment not to do it.

  • @ImNotUglyIJustNeedLove - Pretty much the only good one is one who does nothing, says nothing, and is nothing

  • @Composing_Life - Good words thank you for adding them here

  • @Colorsofthenight - The bible has the answers you are looking for. Maybe you just need some help with it. There is a lot in there. You need only understand the gospel according to john. Then read more after you fully understand John

  • @SlickRick297 - Am i not being nice?

  • You have to stop visiting Joel Osteen’s church.  You always get this way when you’ve been around those penisless losers.  Go hang out at the homeless shelter and you’ll feel right as rain.

  • LOL at your paragraphs about the “judge not” verse and “pop Christian ideology”.  You ain’t neva scurred huh Trun?!

  • @trunthepaige -
Ah, measured with the same stick.

“When in doubt do the kindest thing. “

  • @Such_are_you - ”This is my Bible: I am what it says I am; I have what it says I have; I can do what it says I can do. Today, I will be taught the Word of God”

all without reading more than one sentence of it and it will be out of context

  • @LannyBudd -Exactly you will be judged in the very same way. Hypocrisy will not go good for you

  • Amen!! I couldn’t agree more!  :)

  • @trunthepaige -
Shine a light on me, so you can see me better.

“May the good lord shine a light on you, make every song your favorite tune.” Smile

  • You of all people I would never believe should be held in account to the ‘good’ judgment of other individuals who have far greater failings. It is judgment in the eyes of those who hold such sanctimony who truly fail their faith…

  • @LannyBudd - On rereading I really should have said “me”

  • @Leonidas - Its judgment in the eyes of the hypocrite ( that is often ourselves) that we are warned of. I think that is enough to hold sanctimony at bay

  • It is judgment in the eyes of God that matters.

  • Casper milktoast never satisfies.

You know, when the Bible says, take the plank out of your own eye before trying to take the spec out of the other’s eye.It doesn’t say don’t help them get the spec out od their eye,it says make sure YOU are not doing the very same thing they are.THAT is being judgemental. But it does make a difference in your delivery too.Correction with sarcasm never works.

  • Ahh, another schism or should I call it a dent in the armor of Christianity?  You are spewing out the luke warm water, Paige.  Jesus would have said the same thing.  In fact, I think he did.  But the closet Christian is just another prototype new-age denomination.

  • I see your dilemma. You practice a faith that renders our society subsequent and are held by the conviction that your faith isn’t something just for you, but must be constantly inflicted upon others else there is no real action to take but sit around and have bake sales. I guess for some people letting them see what your faith has done for you just isn’t enough, I guess being different from the world didn’t work out so now you mix and compete. But then you got this thing where you can’t just be you, you have this mandate to convert or was it spread the word to the world. Not easy, not easy at all.

  • ****I learned that: If I thought more about my own mistakes
I would have no time to judge other people. If I judged myself with the same
level of scrutiny I use to judge others, my judgment of others might cease; and
instead of speaking judgments I would speak prayers, instead of gossip, people
would hear complements, instead of how much I hate that person I would speak of
how much God loves that person.****The first thing that came to mind reading your blog was
why would believers who are told by Christ to love one another, to be humble,
to put our brother’s need first, call someone a bad Christian? Even a good
Christian? We are in no place to judge another, it ends up being sinners
judging sinners. If we did put our brother first and saw them doing something
that was going to hurt themselves or another, instead of judging from a far, we
should go and meet people where they are act. One has no idea how and why we
are where we are, maybe they are a new Christian, maybe Heaven has been quiet
for a long time, maybe they are just having a bad day. Heaven gives us not authority
to judge others, Heaven tell us to love others.****When it comes to people calling you a bad Christian
because you don’t fit their idea of Christianity, remember how the Pharisees
again and again attacked Jesus, at one point they even said he was demon possessed(???).
Jesus, the dude, God on earth, they lied about him, how much more will people
lie about his followers who are so far from perfect?****I think the biggest complaint, and the biggest thing
people focus on is the hypocrisy in Christians. How comforting it is to hear
from another Christian guy –yeah man, I also struggle big time with
pornography. Or hear your pastor say –when my daughter was dying of cancer my
faith was shaken. That is real honest Christianity, dude life sucks but God is
good, He is our joy, not this momentary happiness or sadness. Somehow along the
way Christianity became this thing where if you believe hard enough, have good
thoughts, be a good person, God will reward that, you will be blessed and only
good will come your way. The bible does not teach that. Most of the guys that
followed Jesus were murdered, and when they died they had nothing to their
name. You read about Paul, the guy was so used by God and was broke. ****There is no such thing as “good Christian”, we are all
sinners and completely dependent on grace, we are redeemed sinners, we are
forgiven people who love Jesus who forgave our sins, but we are still sinners,
we follow Christ and are horrible at it, that is why Grace is so important,
without it our salvation would be dependent entirely on us being good %100 of
the time without sin, and that is impossible. The real question is how is our
walk with God? But people don’t like to ask that, let’s pretend we are perfect.****People create this persona, the goody goody Christian
who never sins, that is a lie and unreal, that Christian does not exists, maybe
you find someone who has not committed many “big sins” as we humans like to grade
sins, but in his mind, in his heart he has. The Pharisees were very proud they
were not sleeping around, then Jesus tells them anyone who looks at a women
with lust in his eyes, has already sinned. Dude, I sin every day. This leaves
us in a place where we are completely dependent on grace, the longer we walk
with God the more He reveals that. ****I’m a huge Johnny
Cash fan, and that guy loved the Lord, but there were times in his life that he
was not walking as close to God as we all should. His life was public. People
bang on Bono from U2, say he is not a good Christian, you try having your walk
with God be on display for the world to see??? it would not look pretty. There
are times in my life I was not walking as close I as I should have and I screwed
up huge, and people got hurt, and I can never undo those things. You see the
life of David in the bible, the dude screwed up again and again, there were
huge consequences to his actions, his kids and the nation he was king over
suffered, but he always returned and got his heart right with the Lord, he is
know as the man after God’s own heart, and you read about his life and just see
God’s grace again and again.****But you also have the other side of this, people who
walked close with God and their life reflected that, you have people like
Samuel who walked and had exemplary life, and entire Nation told him he never
did anything wrong against them as he was the mediator between them and God.
You  have Josheph who was wrongfully arrested
and was in jail for years, but never stopped believing in the Lord. You have
Daniel who was a man of prayer and even before lions he trusted the Lord. Enoch
who walked with God and God literary took Him to heaven. You have Elijah who
did amazing things, his stuff is just crazy, He was not super human, He was
used by God and his walk with God reflected it, he went into heaven on chariots
of fire, and he was just a man. Remember that Samuel’s kids did not follow
their father’s example. You have Paul before he was a Christian, he was
persecuting Christians left and right, and when he became a believer God had to
put him in jail in order for him to write letters to the church because the
dude would not stop preaching the gospel, there is the story where they drag
him outside the city and stone him to the point of death, the dude get’s back
up and walks back into the city to share the gospel.****What people say about you and I, who cares, we can put
up a fake persona, pretend to be Christian, but non believers respect honesty,
dude I’m a Christian, I don’t have it all figured out, God loves me and shows
me amazing Grace, Im trying to walk with Him, trying to spend time with Him. If
you want to know about my faith ill share it, if you don’t, lets talk politics,
music, just grab a few bears, lets go surfing. What it really comes down to is
if our walk with God is moving or not, are we spending time with Him, reading
his word, loving his people. If we spent our time loving people, putting them
first the way Jesus told us to, never would harsh words come from our mouths,
we simply would not have the time, we would be to busy loving and serving the
Lord. People that have time to judge others can only do so if they believe they
have arrived to point where they no longer need Grace, that is why they are
unwilling to share it with others. When we realize how much we are in need of
Grace, we are willing to show others the same grace heaven has given us.****Sorry this turned out to be huge, I just wanted to
encourage you in your walk with God, that He loves your heart so much, what
matters is what He thinks of you and what you think of Him, and He loves you. I would love to hear about
your walk, how you came to know the Lord, what He has been teaching you.  After I read your post, you were heavy on my
heart, I’ll pray for you tonight. Be blessed, Be loved, because you are
    -Stephen

  • I have to admit, what I got out of this was that you shouldn’t better yourself as a person because of your interpretation of your religion. o_o

  • don’t real Christians live underground and bury each other in the sided of the walls as the world above goes stark raving mad and then come up from underground and ask everybody what happened

  • La cieca cupidigia che v’ammalia

    simili fatti v’ha al fantolino

che muor per fame e caccia via la balia.

  • You forgot one other verse you have to know to be a “good Christian”. LUUUUUUV. Christian love. You don’t actually have to know that entire verse either, just mix it together with the “judge not”. NEVER talk about sin, or hell. It is even much better if you don’t actually believe those terms have much of any real meaning. The only things you are to take from the Bible is Christian LUV and not to judge others.

A lot of people think I’m a bad Christian too. Something that is really tragic is how so many people just don’t even understand what to love actually is. They think it’s all about feelings. And even if it will kill them, as long as it makes them feel good, if you really love them you will never ever even suggest them to stop.
And the whole thing about being offended at the idea that they may be hell bound. It’s like being offended at the idea that jumping off a cliff will likely make you go splat. And blaming me for even suggesting such a thing might happen.

  • “I’m too sacred for the sinners, and the saints wish I would leave”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv5l4fIrqvs

  • Fuck church. All of that is a result of Christians all churched up NOT the ones who care more about Jesus than the assholes at church. Jesus went to the trash of society and regarded them more than all the legalistic assholes in the Temple because at least the sinners were honest about their fucked up selves

  • Thanks.  You’re funny and real.  I think some of those on revelife are really made out of plastic.  We can never be boxed into the ‘nice’ corner, or we will be unable to reach out to the world.  Isn’t it interesting how all those who say nasty things about the Church and Christians attack you for being real?  Well, hatred is real, but so is true love.  Because we care, we have to try and reach our neighbor..

  • thank GOD I am a Catholic! The Word became FLESH aka. a hunk of meat aka human animal.

  • By the standards listed above, I am becoming a worse Christian every day.

In reference to “judge not”…. If I recall correctly, Paul is instructing the Roman church that they should not judge one another (that is, fellow believers) based on simple traditions that individuals hold. One man fasts, while the other eats. One man holds one day above others, another man treats all days the same. I believe Paul goes on to tell us “Who can judge another man’s servant?” in connection with the passage, because basically we are to serve God in the way we feel called to do. So long as we believe in Jesus Christ and follow his teachings, it doesn’t matter if we eat ham on Easter or not.

Also, Christ tells us that by whatever measure we judge others, the same will be used for us. He does not tell us not to judge others, because that would be stupid. Are you going to tell me that Christ would want you to let a known unrepentant serial killer stay in your home with you and your children, simply because you shouldn’t judge him? Um no. Christ wants to remind us that when we pass judgment too strictly, the same strictness will be applied to us on Judgment Day. However, when we do use our judgment, we are to still treat others with kindness, compassion, and love. The end goal is to bring people to Christ, not drive them away from all Christians.

I, for one, like the sarcasm in your post, lol.

  • @mtngirlsouth - As I have said before and need to say again. Live and let live, when it becomes live and let die is not love. Its just not caring about those who are killing themselves enough to confront them and try to help them. Even if they get mad that you told them the truth. It’s all about motivations, more often than not, staying silent is not done out of love, it is done out of fear.

  • @Mangonese - Only if you think that being a silent doormat makes you better person

  • @landers_mommy0520@momaroo - When you mentioned inviting someone “evil” to live in your house, that reminds me that Christians are suppose to invite Jesus into their lives.

So that brings up the point: WWJD (what would Jesus do?) Would Jesus put so much emphasis on being Pro Life and Supporting Gun control? Ok that topic is too hot so why not I propose some of the things that Jesus would want to do.

An American Jesus would walk around the Capital probably around 4th of July. He/She would blog and comment as well.

Yes Jesus would have courage to speak on issues important for both your spiritual life and physical life. Jesus would avoid saying he was of one party persuasion or another. He/she would tell people in private and in personal terms what they need to do for their lives.

Jesus would not condemn or physically throw the first stone. Jesus would meditate and pray a lot. That meditation would reflect on ways to Glorify G-d. The prayers would be prayers of thanks and requests for those he/she knows needs help.

Asking for grace is a double edged sword. If you truly want forgiveness, then you must truly want to repent and never want to do that sin. Cheapening forgiveness will never cause true grace to come into your life. A Christian admitting on working on his sins is typical. The true sinner has no regret for his sinning and probably wants to continue being a sinner. Hypocracy is relative, but those who try to end their sinning soon show the fruits of the spirit. Definitely if I see relatively few fruits of the spirit, that shows me how sincere a believer truly has become.

  • Have you ever read “Orthodoxy”, by G.K. Chesterton?

  • @Jenny_Wren - No and you are not the first to recommend it, so I think I should

  • @Colorsofthenight - You’re the most facetious person on the planet.

  • @DrummingMediocrity - if they’re going to believe, they might as well be Muslims.  At least they would think then.

  • i think the definition of a good Christian is someone who is as much like Christ as possible.  i doubt Christ would be writing sarcastic posts insulting fellow Christians.

  • Wasn’t it just the other day you were singing the praises of Christians and how wonderful and perfect they are and now not a few days later you are mocking some and condemning others?

  • funny how the atheists and disrespectful people come out of the closet whenever you make a post. i think you are doing something right.

  • @Colorsofthenight - How do Muslims think where Christians do not?  Christian-dominated areas tend to be civilized and respect individual rights much more than Islamofascist-dominated areas, which are filled with the barbarism of the dark ages.

  • @tendollar4ways - You do know you make stuff up right?

  • Jesus was not “nice”, docile, quiet, or a pushover, and especially not boring.

  • @flapper_femme_fatale - Oh you so know nothing of Jesus. He called the religious of his own day Hypocrites, dogs, and lots of thing that in Aramaic were likely sarcastic and without a doubt insulting. And lets not forget he took a whip to bunch of them and chased them out of the temple

  • @DrummingMediocrity - Christians enslave the world to their demons.  Africa is all trashed out.  Back home, we’re on welfare due to their “kindness.” They take everything decent then throw us a bone after crushing all of our dreams and inclinations.

Christians are not always loving.  They attacked witches.  They did the crusades.

The Quran makes sense, and they were advanced at several points. You should see mathematics in medieval Islam.  They’re playing a game right now.  They lead us into a trap.

According to the Quran, if you do this, you get this.  If you’re bad, you burn. If you work in America, you are of the wretched apparently. LOL

My Lord has denied me my fruits!  I’m a washed up star.

  • Why does it matter if other human beings call you a “good christian” or not, what they perceive of you has no meaning to your god. Isn’t it your god’s perception of you that matters most? You can be called a “great christian” by your fellow Sunday gathering friends and it would continue to have zero meaning or purpose once you are presented in front of your god. I would suggest to you to not worry about earthly labels from those around you. If you really believe in your religion and your god unwaveringly then you will see past the labels and judgements and who has the more expensive Sunday outfit at church. Do what you feel will please your god, that’s the whole point after all isn’t it.

  • Let’s try the Osteen Bible magic spell with some other form of literature, shall we?  How about pornography… Will the Osteen Bible magic spell work with pornographic material.

“This is my pornography: I am what it says I am; I have what it says I have; I can do what it says I can do.   Today I will be taught the word of pornography.”

YEPPER!  You’d never know the difference.  Pornography fits the Osteen magic spell.  I think you should be the one to break the news to him.

  • @trunthepaige - No, but I think that finding a balance between caring for yourself and caring for others can be attained. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not Christian, and I’m not saying I know everything about the religion, but it seems to me that in order for everyone to get along on this dirty circle called a planet, we should be doing our best to look out for others, give others consideration, and to try and be as impartial as possible.

  • @trunthepaige - yeah… but that’s not what you’re doing.  you’re blogging.  Jesus comments were often insightful and, while insulting, were more about change than knocking the other person down a peg.

furthermore, your worldview sounds far more like a Pharisee: do this, do that, get into Heaven… or don’t, and you’re damned for eternity.  very legalistic.  i don’t recall Jesus EVER singling someone out in discussion and saying “Hey, you’re going to burn in Hell!”

  • The natural man (simply) does not understand spiritual things because they are spiritually discerned. Your post points this out very clearly. To be accepted and loved by the world is a dangerous place to be. In the first place, God tells us that we will be different – a people who is not like the world. In the second place, if we stand on our spiritual heads trying to please the world, the world will never be satisfied that we have groveled enough. They will always add one more requirement to be acceptable…in the end, that requirement will be denying Christ.

  • @Colorsofthenight - The Qur’an is more blunt about its hatred.  Christianity has thrown pretty toppings on theirs for the sake of kindness.  I see what you mean; altruism is indeed tyranny, and this is the flaw in Christian ideology.

  • @DrummingMediocrity - Yeah, in my opinion, the Quran was written by another species that is going to be resurrected and enslave all of us in the next world where we will learn to bow.  We didn’t listen to God, so we’re all inmates.  We were given oaths to bind them until their return.

I think they’re going to use the poor people to overthrow the humans.

    We’re already building our prisons.

  • @Colorsofthenight - You really are the most interesting person on xanga.  ILY

  • @DrummingMediocrity - I think you’re the most abstract person I’ve ever met.  You’re colorful.
