  • I must say that in the midst of all of the chaos yesterday, I have to point out the wonderful responsiveness of @eugenia and how she is always pleasant and accommodating. If it were not for her, I fear Xanga would be in even worse shape. Anyway, I’m being proactive and rating this post an A for good measure.

  • Yeah, this shit has really gotten ridiculous. Surely the Xanga team can figure out who’s behind all of this. I wasn’t the only one who was hit hard and with a vengeance either. I’ve only gotten one additional EX rating from the time I was initially shut down (I now have a total of 71), but wow.

Someone has way too much time on his/her hands and not much in the way of maturity either.

  • I just rated this post “A” and I see no “EX” as of yet….

  • You get my “A” and a Rec.  You added some valuable info here on how to take care of this if it happens again.  Thanks!

  • Whew! Made it through the list. Thanks for all you’ve been doing to help get attention to this problem! Rated this post an A so hopefully it can stay where it belongs on Top Blogs.

  • Every time I view a page or site I’m rating both A now. I hope to eventually see an END to ratings as I think they are silly and user comments should show the true reflection of ratings.

And – it is good that Eugenia (whom I knew only from Email in Xanga earlier) is actively taking part and correcting sites.

Now the bad news. As for catching the person involved (and I have a good idea who is doing this). No – that’s not going to happen. If this user is, and I suspect they are, spoofing their IP and using a macro-driven engine to mass-create bogus user accounts for the sole purpose of attacking others -

That is not going to be easy to track down. Spoofing your IP means that even people who work for the Internet server will see that this user is calling from a different city, state, continent, each time they login even though they actually aren’t.

Fortunately some internet servers prevent against this kind of evasion, like Charter.

But – there are too many tools to protect cyberbullies these days and not enough tools to prevent against them. At this point I suggest the ratings for Xanga just be removed completely – or let only staff determine whose site and/or page is EX and certainly not let ‘minutes-grown’ users flag pages as EX.

As SecretBeerReporter pointed out, someone has too much free time on their hands …

BTW, Paige, you were asking if you received any EX’s. Not for this post, no, but your site has 19 EX’s on it. I added an A but it looks like you got hit by this idiot too.

  • I haven’t been here enough lately to know this was going on. I’ll go rate some right now! Good post, Paige. And people wonder why I’m nutz aboutcha!

  • I agree that people going on Friends lock is not good but I’m not opening up to be hit by them until this is resolved.

  • The list is interesting. I’ll go by it that the ratings target blogs for a reason. I can’t see what that reason is, but its clearly not aimed at accurately rating blogs. Someone has a mental health issue.

  • The cool thing is new accounts don’t get to rate other blogs. The bad thing is that there are many old accounts. I checked Dan’s blog and he has 91 EX ratings.

  • @StupidSystemus - And they do not normally get caught, but a few of them went down this time. If the rumors are true about who it is. They or it may only be one guy, have been making fake sites for years. Used to use them in order to have a few on top blogs. BUt I am not sure so I cant name names

  • @trunthepaige – If someone still using old themes is running the IP logger on their site and got ex-rated multiple times, they would find out easily.

  • This is all so confusing to me haha! I am still trying to figure out how this all works, and find blogs that I can just scroll and read. And now I have to try and figure this out. But thanks again for the update.

  • I rated your site for all ages. I have to say I had to really think about it though. I know you have talked about some rather explicit things and I just kept thinking if my daughter were 10 years old surfing Xanga. Mind you I would never even let my daughter freely surf Xanga without monitoring her closely and she is all grown up now anyway.

I cannot say I will have time to visit the others on the list. Some I am already familiar with and I might visit and rate them honestly as you said.

But I know others do let their kids without monitoring. So I looked back at some of your prior discussions, seen nothing alarming or hair raising. And the issue isn’t just the site as much as the people that visit that site with their filthy comments. But overall even when you pick difficult topics I think you handle it well and with well sounded apologetics in defense of our common faith. So for this reason I gave you the best rating even though I do not agree with you on everything theologically, but hey, who does right?

    God Bless,

  • @StupidSystemus - I used to be one of those who kept an eye on one of the better loggers. There have always been a lot of fake sites on xanga. Some IP addresses had over 25 xangas coming out of them. I saw one guy arguing with himself on my site. I used one guys own tracker against him once. He seemed to forget that his was public. Not many use those anymore. But xanga did turn a few of those visiting me yesterday off. They still do see all the information when they want to see it

  • @RobertLeeRE - Change you rating to a B and set you daughters rating to A. I used to self rate at B. I will be back to that today

  • @trunthepaige - I am afraid I do not understand? What exactly do you mean?

  • I just checked the self rating on my site which should be for all ages yet the first three were checked and it couldn’t be changed-whats up with that? Mine should be all ages. I guess I do not understand this…

  • @RobertLeeRE - That is what you can read. You can set it lower

  • I couldn’t check out ladyboyrevolution and n-e-i-l… I got this message

This page has been rated D – Discretion Required - Parent or guardian approval required for minors under 18.”

Anyways I’ve clicked everyone’s name on the list and rated them as A. And you also!

It’s really sad to see someone is using the system the wrong way on here.

  • @PorcelainDoll_xo - He is a D rated site. Probably self rated a D

  • @RobertLeeRE - The stupid filters no longer work! What it the point of this stupid thing?

  • I figured out how it works, never mind.

  • @trunthepaige - Well, some people have kids, I guess hat is why. Not everyone wants to watch their own kids and they are always enlisting others to. Me , for one, would never let my kids on line, to protect them. Xanga is not a kid’s site and never will be. I wouldn’t even let my daughter on myspace, no where on line. Kids do not need to be online. There are enough distractions they have already. They don’t need cell phones either. I raised my daughter that way and now she is way ahead of her peers in school. So I guess it is your philosophy of how to raise and socialize them. But as God’s people we should protect them from all the false philosophies that come in all forms….

  • @RobertLeeRE - No I meant why does Xanga bother with this when they have made their filter so they no longer work except for D and EX. Those two rating are far to bad for children. EX is Porno D would be rough writing and sexual nudity. C is like a PG13 rating. They are not letting you rate it lower

  • @trunthepaige - I thought they were blocking me from rating my own site lower but they were not. It was my own misreading of it. It always takes me a while to comprehend the web pages when i read them and that was the case here. I was misreading it. They were talking of how to rate my own searches on Xanga, instead of my own sites reading . When I looked further down on the same page it had another spot on what I wanted my site to rate and it did allow me to self rate all children allowed. My Bad Sorry for the confusion.

  • Afterall the assistance I received, I have a C rating.

  • Thanks to you and others, for the hard effort you put into this. Giving another “A” for good measure!

  • Just rated this an A!

  • Xanga is so outdated. =/

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - Well yeah… but so am I it seems

  • Now it is 22 A ratings and 2 EX ratings. It took a while to figure out but now I sort of understand.

Back in the days xanga had volunteer raters to watch videos and blogs posted by xangians. I used to do that and it was boring but a necessary job that only volunteers can do.

  • Hey there… I need to check this more than once a damn day… so last time I checked I had a couple of A’s… I think Riis is fine, as for LKJ I can see her site, but not her entry on the 13th… I can still view yours… Is there anything else I need to be doing because if this is the case I may take my blog some place else… damn it and it was feeling like home again

  • Personally, I see these as maliciuos acts and thus legally prosecutable offenses which may bear fines and or other penalties. But I am not a lawyer so I can not say for certain. If it is illegal for a kid to chew his poptart into the shape of a gun, then willfully and deliberately infringing upon the civil liberties of individual citizens by slanderous action ought to be as well. Wouldn’t you think?

  • @RobertLeeRE - Kids should be playing real games in the real world. Absolutely. Not wasting time online, like you said. Heck we should be too!!!

  • i on friend look becase of them mark other bloger ex18 let hop xanga bloke them for doing that it is hert xanga by them doing that if i finde somthing bad i contace xanga and have ther site shout down i done that on lot of trol on her

  • @Aloysius_son - You wouldn’t believe how many different ways my daughter tried to pressure us into giving her a phone and computer and let her online. When she was in 5th grade my wife talked me into letting our daughter have those things and mistakenly I gave in. I gave here clear perimeters and boundary and watched monitored her closely for her own protection. Within two months she had violated every boundary I gave her, was in contact with a 28 year old man living five states away and was planning on meeting him at the mall, this man posing as a boy that was in her same school. Nothing but trouble. It also came out she was stealing from her mother’s purse a $100 to buy a broken mp3 player from a friend that ripped her off that she thought she needed. Thank goodness all this came out though. So everything was taken away, no phone no Internet, nothing. And over the years she kept coming back asking for a reinstatement of those privileges. I just kept telling her to worry about her right place in the world. Her job was to get good grades and that was it. Her job was not to socialize or date or nothing until after high school. Well it worked because her grades skyrocketed after that. Right now she will finish her 2nd year of college while at the same time 12th grade living on campus at her selected University of which her Aunty is paying for the room and board but the state of Minnesota pays full tuition and books under the PSEO program which is a program that allows children in the upper 5% of their class ranking to attend college paid by state of MN. So when we she graduates high school she will graduate one course shy of 2 years with zero debt. All this to be a math teacher. Technically she is valedictorian but she lost that because of the way the high school figures the score. She has even been on the college deans list also. All this with no cell phone no Internet. This allowed her to stay focused. Now that she lives on campus we let buy her own cell phone if she could pay out of her own money. So yes, the kids do not need cell phones or Internet to be successful and it is only a distraction.

  • @Aloysius_son - They certainly are malicious acts and should be prosecuted. But it seems the legislatures just can never catch up with the current technologies. There are also other attacks thatXangaignores which are usually coming from the fanatical Atheists that purposely attempt to disrupt discussion and sidetrack Christianblogs. Somehow you hardly ever see Christians going to theirblogsto disrupt, always the other way around.  I know of many Christians that just couldn’t stand all the attacks and went toWordPress. Me for one I just block them. They get pissed but I don’t care, myblogmy rules. If they can’t play by the rules I show them the door.

But a innocent child doesn’t know how to handle that type of behavior so children shouldn’t be on Xanga anyway but that is just my opinion of how to socialize my kids. I figure these are their growing years and they have plenty of time when more mature spiritually to be exposed to false philosophies.
Sometimes I think Xanga just likes all the drama and purposely wants things to be constantly stirred up. I know many Christians that went to Wordpress for that reason. But in reality their civil liberties were violated under the 1st Amendment.

  • this makes me happy no one knows me here.  My blog’s so small it’s overlooked.  although I don’t care for  people who do that, that’s not funny.  Who gets there kicks by shutting down pstings. (I suspect it’s one of the major bloggers here though trying to ‘out’ popular bloggers for top blog)

  • @Amandascowen - The only thing that the people who get hit have in common is that they make top blogs. It is a jealousy thing

  • @Aloysius_son - If xanga only had a staff or a few trusted free moderators this would never have happened. But alas they are understaffed personal control freaks. SO it will never stop happening

  • @trunthepaige - what they should do is make it harder to ‘ex-rate’.  So only the people that really mean it do it.  Knock up a ‘rating  policy  like  our universal  censorship rating system (pg/pg13/ R) that has a set list of qualifications for each catagory that each rating fit’s into and make people  file out a paper where they can pinpoint content in the posting or blog to make it ex-rated.

It would cut down atleast, people don’t like to ‘take time’ to do shit like that.  People are too lazy, that’s too much effort. lol.  I bet it’s some top blogger or blogger that wants to be a top blog that’s just too lazy to do the time and make the effort to add more people and comment and rec them. (easier to just run around on a few troll blogs ex-rating people eh? lol.)

  • @trunthepaige - er, I probably should just tell them that though.  I don’t know why I  wrote that to you.  I’ll send them a message on it although I’m too small of a blogger here, I don’t know how much imput  it will have, the advice might  get though  to them more from a popular blogger.

  • @Amandascowen - You should, none of us are very big now days. You are as important as anyone else. Maybe the theologian is really big but the rest of us are about even
