  • Should I Stay? Or Should I Go?

Xanga 2.0 will be a reality soon.

But I think I have lost most of my readership these last two months. Over the years on Xanga I have lost track of thousands of people. That means will need to build this site up again if I want anyone to read it and respond. I could do that anywhere. I know how to do It. Its not that hard to do really, but doing it takes some effort and time. Up to now I have stayed here on Xanga out a a sense of belonging and being a bit lazy. I have had people here I know, if I wrote something it would be read. And in many cases read by people I like. Rebuilding here or anywhere else means that I am not going to not have many readers for a while. I will need to build up a new community. That takes a wee bit of work. I might even need to proof read my writing for a while :/

If I must make an effort is it worthwhile making it here?

    Are you guys still here?

Are you still interested in what I write?

Will a site that needs feedback still work for me on Xanga?

In other words before I lay my money down, is anyone still interested?

  • Seems to be a ghostown here.  Personally, I’m migrating elsewhere to blog but will continue to lurk around til this ship sinks.

  • No I’m not here.  I left this spam bot to harrass Xangans with comments offering fake Viagra and male enhancement pills.

  • @Ro_ad808 - That is what it seems like. I can go and see who is still here sat hello make a friend by being one. But my sort of blog no longer seems to be around here, so who would even care if I did come to them frist

  • @Such_are_you - Can I buy some for my husband?

  • I haven’t seen very many people around. Most did migrate to WordPress. Regardless it will take effort IMO good luck!

  • @Such_are_you - If it can not work out for me here, I doubt it will for you ether. We need to go to the same place I think  It would be nice if that were here but we will see

  • @pinktiger335 - Yes it will but if enough of you guys are around and interested have always been on Xanga. I might do a two site thing for a while

  • @trunthepaige - Sure but it’s made in China, so there’s a 75% chance his goodies will fall off.

  • I’m trying to stay loyal and see Xanga through to its new self but this place is starting to smell like something that just up and died.

  • @trunthepaige - We’ve both got WordPress sites.  I think I like Blogger better.  But if you prefer one I’m willing to follow your lead.  I’m shutting down my FB

  • I’m interested, but WHOA PROOF READING?! oh my Paige :/ that sounds so desperate. :p

  • @Such_are_you - I can follow a blogger site from wordpress so that is not and issue at all. That place is not walled in at all

  • @GreekPhysique - I know that would be such a sad day

  • @trunthepaige – it’s too bad we can’t get a month trial to test the waters. :)

  • @pinktiger335 - If they were smart they would give away a year hoping to hook them. Paying upfront would be at a better price and some better features

  • @trunthepaige - Blogger is the same way.  I can follow anyone from there.  Even when Xangans went on Friends lock I could still access their sites from my blogger site.  I accidentally found a glitch in Xanga that way.  Never said anything til now.

  • Since I made my pledge and get a year free I’m probably gonna post here and at WordPress. I look forward to reading you at either place though the WordPress crowd seems a like they may be a little too mature to provide the kind of hilarious comments you get from the the crowd here on Xanga. You’ve got talent though kid so I’m sure with a little bit of effort you can get their panties in a bunch over there too.

  • @SKANLYN - They are a more literate and more thoughtful lot

  • @SKANLYN - In other words sitting ducks

  • @trunthepaige - And I don’t think they can block you over there.

  • @SKANLYN - True but they can screen and if they pay they get IP blocking

  • @trunthepaige - Either way continue to do your thing. As far as Xanga goes, I don’t think they’re gonna be around for the long-term so I’m not sure I would  pay for a multiple year membership.

  • I left; but I’ve been checking in wondering what will happen to Xanga finally. Proofread… that isn’t as difficult as maybe it seems. You can do it.

  • I *returned* when I heard about the new Xanga. I’d love for you to stay. I am.

  • will it be like it was or spin that song MAKE IT LIKE IT WAS…. the answer is i have built and succeeded  after the first 3 duds of names or that long on the block.  but it was short lived like a book marker’s placement.  I never have regained the effort of my supposed hayday here as in i lost  half forever to marriage and children disinterested keeping up here.  other lives .  to be fair there is six hundred folks ish staying and I do not know them all so that would like triple my best heights so it can be done.  but something tells me xanga is just six months waiting for everyone to get over this we’re all leaving thing feeling in reality I still match  closely the views I get and yet it IS a ghostown of an inbox ..so in that sense the same folks and numbers i have but that pace toned down.  but you ask if you should waste your money on us… you must decide  you know my name vaguely how often do people come around really?  I put down.  I wanted the t shirt to say i had been there and done that  I have it  I think I overpaid.

  • I also left my Xanga account after about a DECADE of loyal blogging! Migrated to WordPress actually, where I’m slowly settling in. But yeah, as a couple people have been doing, I keep clicking back to Xanga just to basically see if it’s GONE yet, or whatever’s supposed to happen has happened. So far it seems like things are still here, and normal. But I’ve pretty much severed ties after archiving and d/l’ing my entire Xanga blog. Not coming back now, after starting on WP.I wonder when 2.0 is supposed to hit??

  • I’m going to definitely try to stay, and I have some big ideas for how I’m going to use my blog in Xanga 2.0….it would be great if many of my all time favorites, like yourself, stayed too

  • shows how good of a blogger I am. I am never on here anymore at all. I used to love to write in my xanga and it just feels like a chore anymore. so they are changing it??

  • @trunthepaige – yes, you make a valid point. Maybe once 2.0 gets a head start they will be doing something for people to earn a year of blogging or months. Who knows what they’re going to do to reach out.

  • A look at “Top Blogs” and their respective number of views and comments tells the tale, and it’s not a good one. It’s been one bad business move after another…

  • You know I’m interested. I hope you stay!

  • i just take a place here

  • thank you for your sharing, i love your post

  • Hello, would you please let me put this article in my website? If you allow me to do that, please let me know via by my e-mail. Thanks. hd porn

  • I still her  for now my account remaine open  for now not eaver body have money to pay to blogger on Xanga

  • Yes, I’m here. I’m staying but I do notice a lot of my friends are going elsewhere.

  • I’m still here.  We weren’t friends, but I did read you often.  I mostly blog about daily “boring” life, my family,  Africa, Armenian relatives, once in awhile Bible versesor religious thoughts.  A lot of my friends have left.  I wish they hadn’t.  Most of the comments on my site were favorable, with an occasional marketer, or angry Atheist.  I don’t mind the non-angry Atheists……they make me think, but the angry ones are no fun.  Whatever you decide, keep writing!

  • im going to stay on xang bcoz i met my friends herr who became a part of whole blogging experience. xanga is my hideout, a place wherr i can be myself and express who i am inside….

  • I say stay.   We’re just in a period of transition right now as things change over.

  • I’m doing both now…hedging my bets? but writing on http://www.before itsnews.com is fun for me. I never bothered to build readership here. and never really grooved on anyone…you were one of the few I followed. ty.

  • Yeah, this place is a ghost town now :(  I’m at Blogger now, but at the moment I’m doing a month-long photo challenge so I’m posting it there. I’m not really ready to blog about many personal things there, like what I do here on Xanga.I really want 2.0 to do well and grow, but I just don’t know :(

  • I am not sure where I am.  I have been double posting between here and blogger, but haven’t even been doing that as much.  I need to get back in the groove, but it seems like what little readership I had has drifted away.  Makes me sad!

  • I’ll certainly be glad when the dust settles and all the migration is over.  Whoever stays here, like me, will find it a good place, as before, with additional bells and whistles.   When word gets out, there will be new people here and some other blogging options.  Actually, all the fuss about the money is really stupid.   Anything worth doing costs something in time and money.    I hope you stay.

  • trends come trends go…. I think xanga is on the going end of things right now. I don’t post much myself these days cause it seemed not worth the time. Good luck wherever the winds take you

  • I am staying.  I hope you do, too.

  • I’ve not paid much attention to xanga for a while.I did see (I think) where they may start charging to use xanga. If thats what Xanga 2.0 is,then I’m afraid I will be history.Xanga was a place to be silly mostly for me as I got to understand blogging, but I’m not a writer and I don’t do a lot of reading or research so why would I pay to do something I don’t really do.Xanga was a neat way to meet folks from not just all over America you would never meet, but even all over the world. It’s been a cool experience learning about people and even learning some things about myself. But if Xanga requires I fork out money to them, this Grampy will be history on Xanga.I’ll just keep up with you on Facebook.

  • Never knew you existed in the first place.  What do you normally write about?

  • I always like your blog posts. I’ve often thought (and said) that you hide your brilliance behind typos and misspellings, so I hope that never changes. But Xanga seems to be in its death throes, so I don’t know.Since I’m certainly not going to pay to blog, I’ll probably go elsewhere if they require money. I set up a WordPress site, and haven’t looked at any others yet. Facebook is ok, but blogging there is different somehow and not as good.Be sure to keep us all informed, ok?

  • @SpiderDad - I do worry that Xanga 2.0 will be such a walled garden that no one outside the walls will be interested in it. More of a cemetery than a public park

  • I’ve always loved this place to just express myself.  It gave me a empty page to fill with what ever was on my mind.  Then I started getting comments and I continued to write what came to mind or what kept me awake, so I could get it off my mind.  Community comes with showing up. You did. I think Xanga 2.0 will begin a new chapter.  I’m willing.  How about you?

  • @Rescued_by_grace - You’ll still be able to comment for free.

  • The Xanga Team did tremendous damage to an already declining user base with their initial doomsday announcement and lack of communication.  I’ve predicted that, even if Xanga 2 happened, it will only consist of a very small membership base and the level activity will be similar to what you see now.  This site cannot attract any new members unless Xanga abandons their lame-brained idea of paying to blog.  I love Xanga, but if your goal is to write for an audience, Xanga 2 is not the place to do it.

  • I returned as well when I heard it was possibly being shut down. I am going to Xanga 2.0 and I am going to blog again. We’ll see what happens. That said, it will not be the only place I blog.

  • @CynaraJane - That is the way I am leaning dual site blogging. With both being word press based i should be able to make the look the same. Basically the same site on two addresses. I believe you have a blogger, will that be your second site?

  • @coolmonkey - I am going to do a dual site. I agree their effort to save it chased a lot of people away. But I cant bring myself to just say bye. I hope its not just a long goodbye

  • @trunthepaige - More than likely.

  • What was the question again?I’m still here. I’ll read what you write if I am online and it appears high enough up in my feed. I read 25 -30 blogs a day, usually starting at the top and working down, but I do skip some if the blogger has become redundant. So many bloggers and not enough time.

  • Meh. I’m a selfish writer. Mostly write for myself, and read a handful of other blogs. Always fantasized about reaching top blogs, but too lazy to write well. I’ll read your blogs from time to time, but I rarely hold up my side of the conversation.

  • i think you should stay. i’ve had mine since 07. i don’t have “readers” but I enjoy the occasional advise from strangers. besides, this site is the real thing.

  • @Aloysius_son - Yes you are and it seems I can not stay gone@nyclegodesi24 - Sadly I rarely write things than do not require feedback @mooniiqque - I think I will be staying. This entry shows that there are still enough people here

  • I am still on xanga… I don’t consider things like “readership”. I am not a writer. But I do like people – and like to talk with them about things. So sometimes I will write a few things and post a few pics to get a conversation started… Its mostly about connecting. if I thought it was about me trying to write stuff that impresses people – I would never have started.

  • its a no brainer pay the $48 a year or start a new for free I already have 7 followers on tumblr….its not hard….

  • When I do come here and I see you’ve posted something interesting, I’ll comment. I’m on WordPress now and I like it there. I think you will, too. I am not sure who I should thank, you or @starmanjones - for putting that song Make It Like It Was in my head.

  • It is not hard to get people to read what you write. You first of all have to write or post something interesting when you do it.When I moved also to another place it was not hard to get people to read or follow. in the short couple of months I have 20 people that are followers, and 15 readers so that is not so bad.Consider finding something that will catch the interest of those that come by. • @BroDoc - thank you for the encouragement

  • @trunthepaige - My pleasure. And another thing we must remember, people are not sure if the boat will be here at the end of Aug. So they have to see long term proof that it will still be here.Don’t give up the ship yet my friend. Just hang in there and they will come to read you.Your cool by the way. Bro. Doc

  •          Enjoy reading your posts!  Stay!  I really need to get a paid site.  I thought the same too about leaving Xanga, but I already have Facebook, Twitter, and two blogs on blogger.  Thinking about getting WordPress too, it’s time consuming but fun.  As far as followers and readership, I am always looking for support.  Blog on!  Your site looks great!
